William Zakroff, CEO and Director
...co-founder of SyncWave Systems and co-founder CEO / Manager of Marinus Power; has over 30 years experience in the global energy business. Mr. Zakroff has been a serial entrepreneur and general management consultant since founding the Zakroff Group in 1984. Mr. Zakroff has also been active for many years as both a financial advisor and investor on a number private equity and venture capital transactions including several involving the design and manufacture of subsea equipment and offshore engineering, construction, and installation services. In recent years, as renewable ocean energy began to emerge, Mr. Zakroff recognized the challenges facing this nascent industry as well as the many opportunities that will be created. In addition, Mr. Zakroff presently serves as a Non-Executive Director on the Board of Hardide plc, an Oxford, UK based industrial coatings company traded on the AIM / London Stock Exchange, is a co-founder and Director of Smart OES, a clean tech venture focused on smart office energy measurement and control systems, and is an Advisory Board member of Ingenero Inc., a Mumbai, India, based process engineering company serving the global petroleum and petrochemical industries. Mr. Zakroff began his career with the General Electric Company where he held management positions in strategic planning, international development, ventures, and general management. He received his BS in Chemistry from the University of New Mexico and an MBA with Distinction from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.
James Adamson, PE, Director of Engineering
... with responsibility for engineering and technical matters, has over 35 years of experience in the marine and subsea industries. After a tour in the US Navy Submarine Service, college prepared the way for his career that has spanned more than 3 decades in progressive engineering and executive management responsibilities. Mr. Adamson has been responsible for the design and manufacture of surface vessels and a broad range of underwater remotely operated vehicles (ROV’s), as well as numerous special projects in underwater tooling, manipulators, vehicle handling systems, and subsea structural systems. He is a recognized world authority in underwater cable seabed burial system design. He holds patents on numerous devices including a steering device for a subsea cable plow, a heave compensation system for a launch and recovery device, and one pending for a deepwater piling hammer. Mr. Adamson received a BS in Mechanical Engineering with highest honors from Georgia Institute of Technology and an MS in Ocean Engineering with a fluid mechanics specialty from Florida Atlantic University
Laurie Bristow, CA, Director of Finance and Administration
… with 23 years experience in financial accounting; has worked in a wide range of business sectors and in a broad spectrum of roles including VP Finance & Administration and Financial Controller. Mr. Bristow has been responsible for the profitable financial management and direction of several small and medium sized businesses. Most recently, he was the VP Finance & Administration for 12 years at a world leading high tech subsea equipment company based in Vancouver where he successfully implemented the financial systems required to launch many large scale projects including the United States Navy’s latest generation submarine rescue vehicle and was responsible for securing and managing government financing for various research and development projects. Mr. Bristow received a BSc in Math and a Licentiate in Accounting from the University of British Columbia and received his Chartered Accountant designation through the Institute of Chartered Accountants of BC while working for Price Waterhouse.

John Gunton, PhD, Chairman and Director
…co-founder of SyncWave Systems and co-founder CEO / Chairman of SyncWave Energy, the developer and licensor of the SyncWave wave energy converter technology. Dr. Gunton has over 35 years experience as a petroleum exploration and development geologist with a variety of oil and gas companies including Shell and Exxon. He led Shell’s exploration program to discover new uranium deposits in Canada in the 1970s. In 1997 Dr. Gunton formed his own consulting company, Discovery International Geoconsulting, and is currently actively involved in international oil and gas plays and prospect and opportunity evaluation for selected clients. His knowledge of the occurrence and distribution of natural resources has led to a keen interest in evaluating issues which impact on global supply and demand of energy. He is also currently a Board member of Canadian Espirito Energy, a private oil and gas company focusing on upstream oil and gas projects in offshore Brazil. Dr. Gunton graduated from Durham University in England with a BSc in Geology and was awarded a PhD in Geology by Queen’s University in Canada..

Bradley Buckham, PhD, Senior Science Advisor
...has a decade of experience in ocean engineering and hydrodynamics and first began working with SyncWave in March 2005 as a scientific and engineering consultant. Dr. Buckham is lead inventor of the SyncWave wave energy converter technology and is an Associate Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Victoria where his areas of active research and interest include computational dynamics models, hydrodynamics, sub-sea mooring dynamics, remotely operated underwater vehicle-manipulators, robotic control and automation. He was recently named a BCIC Entrepreneurship Fellow for 2009, an award that recognizes a permanent faculty member at a BC postsecondary institution who is a leader in technology innovation and commercialization in British Columbia. In 2006 Dr. Buckham won the U-Vic Faculty of Engineering Teaching Award and Prize, and in 2004-2005 received a prestigious BC Advanced Systems Institute Research Award honoring his industrially sponsored research program at U-Vic involving the development of submerged robotic technology. Dr. Buckham received both his BEng and PhD at the University of Victoria.
John Bean, CA, Business Advisor
…joined the SyncWave Systems Advisory Board in 2009 and has been a Director of SyncWave Energy since 2005. In August 2009 he was appointed CFO of Monexa Technologies Corp. (TSX-Venture: MXA). Mr. Bean was previously the principal of InSpire Consulting Services which provided bridge management services and senior executive counsel to technology and other companies. Before founding InSpire, Mr. Bean was an Executive VP of SHL Systemhouse during the period when revenues tripled from $400 million to $1.2 billion. He was a member of SHL’s Executive Council and was responsible for extending SHL’s global reach in the Asia Pacific region. Prior to joining SHL, Mr. Bean was a partner with Accenture and sat on the advisory board of Accenture’s Center for Strategic Technology Research and was Accenture’s Communications Industry Director for Canada. Mr. Bean sits on the Computer Systems Technology Industry Advisory Committee for BCIT. Mr. Bean has a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of British Columbia and is a Chartered Accountant.
